Dr. Ankitha Prakash Arvan, Ph.D.
Geotechnical Engineering R&D Lead
Tierra South Florida Inc. (TSFGeo)
A strategic research and advancement professional bridging computational innovation with real-world infrastructure challenges.
With over a decade of experience across academia, government, and the private sector, I specialize in geotechnical and structural engineering with expertise spanning deep foundations, bridge technologies, and AI-driven analysis. My work involves direct collaboration with USDOT, FDOT, USACE, FHWA, and NCHRP on major infrastructure initiatives.
My doctoral dissertation applied Artificial Intelligence techniques to develop GEOS© Version 1.0, a standalone open-source geotechnical software that simplifies complex soil-pile interaction analysis—benefiting researchers, practicing professionals, and academia.
I am an active member of ASCE, ASCE Geo-Institute, Deep Foundations Institute (DFI), FSEA, and serve as a Panel Member for the Transportation Research Board at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM).

What Readers Say
“As a recent civil engineering graduate, I have found the archives of The Civil Engineering Chronicles by Dr. Ankitha Prakash Arvan particularly influential in helping me bridge what I learned in school with what I now understand in practice. Posts on structural behavior, foundation design, and project breakdowns have helped me revisit concepts like load paths, soil-structure interaction, and design considerations in a much clearer, more applied way. The emphasis on sustainability, resilience, modern design tools, and case-study thinking has also encouraged me to think more critically about safety, efficiency, and performance as I enter the industry.”
“The Civil Engineering Chronicles by Ankitha is an innovative read for professionals in the engineering field. In her article on the intersection between engineering and digital technologies, she describes the evolving transformation of engineers from builders of physical structures to builders of intelligent, cloud-based systems with detail and clarity. What makes her writing unique is the combination of engineering knowledge and experience with a broader vision for the profession as a whole. This Substack is a strong resource for engineers who want to stay relevant and informed about continuing developments in their field.”
“As an editor, working on these blogs has been a highly rewarding experience. The content consistently balances technical depth with readability, making complex civil engineering concepts accessible to a broader audience. The thoughtful, occasionally playful approach to current trends combined with real-life explanations has streamlined the editing process. As an Engineer-in-Training, the blog also keeps me updated on industry trends while strengthening my technical knowledge in a more interactive way. Working with Ankitha has given me the opportunity to help create engaging engineering content online while staying current with the field.”
